Search Console, Brand Mentions, Google Trends
Search Console
In Search console we track how many people visit our website with brand keywords and what keywords do they use.
This is a bi-weekly activity we should track.
Go to https://search.google.com/search-console , find Search results for your project and click ‘+New’
Add a Query containing the search term. It can be Legit or Tuko.
3. Now you will see how many people searched for your project on Google and how many of them clicked on the link to enter the website. Due to the PR activities, more people should learn about the website and google it. If we notice a drop in search, immediate actions should be taken.
4. If you scroll the page down, you will find the main brand keywords people use to search our website. This is important to understand what they associate our website with.
Brand Mentions
We use https://www.google.com/alerts to monitor Brand mentions.
Create a notification for your website using different brand keywords (some of them you have seen in Search console).
For Legit.ng: legit.ng , legitNG, "Legit ng" -site:legit.ng
For TUKO: tuko.co.ke, tuko news -site:tuko.co.ke2. Create notifications for key people on the project (Chief Editor, Managing Director, Video hosts, yourself)
3. Create notifications for the topics that we want to be involved in (media awards, women in media, media leadership, Digital Talks, etc)
Pay attention: Use -site:legit.ng or -site:tuko.co.ke to exclude search results from our websites.
Google Trends
Google Trends is a relatively inaccurate tool if we compare it to the ones mentioned above. Use it to track the overall interest of the audience to our websites. It is good to compare ourselves to our competitors.
Choose your country. Type the website in search row.
2. Now you can see the audience interest for the past 12 months.
3. You can add the competitors in ‘+Compare’ section. Make sure that you compare equal entities. (Legit.ng website to competitor website or Legit.ng as a search term to competitor name as a search term)
